cooperkatz

This fall, CooperKatz has two interns: Courtney Newby, a graduate of Brigham Young University, and Jacqueline Gurevich, a senior at Columbia University. Learn about what they’re studying, their favorite websites and more in our latest blog post.

Courtney Newby
Brigham Young University, Class of 2014

What did you study?
I graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.A. in Communications with a PR emphasis, and a minor in non-profit management.

What is the best class you’ve ever taken, and why did you love it?
Public Speaking. My professor was a speech writer for White House officials. She taught me how to effectively persuade, debate and ultimately see others’ points of view with compassion.

What is your favorite website and why?
At the moment it’s Vice.com, the newest in international investigative journalism. It’s my favorite right now because it pushes conventional media boundaries through the use of new media.

Jacqueline Gurevich
Columbia University, Class of 2015

What do you study?
I am currently a senior at Columbia University majoring in Psychology.

What is the best class you’ve ever taken, and why did you love it?
Last year I took a class on Image and Identity in Contemporary Advertising. The course examined how modern businesses shape our representations of social life through advertisements. It really pushed me to think about myself as a consumer of both products and information. I now think twice about how advertisers define me as a consumer and why I am drawn to certain products over others.

What is your favorite website and why?
Cogifter.com, an online crowd funding gift registry. Users can register a gift from any website and then ask their friends and family to chip in via social media. It’s a great way to get the gift you have always wanted or give a gift while still on a budget. But I am partially biased as I am one of the co-founders.
