Meet the CooperKatz Summer Interns: Carina Brown and Jake Walker

Becca Hare

This summer, CooperKatz has two interns: Carina Brown, a senior at Columbia University, and Jake Walker, a senior at Brigham Young University. Learn about their studies, post-graduation plans and more in our latest blog post.

Carina Brown
Columbia University, Class of 2016

What do you study?
My major is psychology with a concentration in business management.

What is the best class you’ve ever taken, and why did you love it?
I am currently taking a seminar called “The Dynamic Brain: Neuroplasticity across the lifespan” which I am absolutely loving. It essentially covers how the brain’s neural pathways alter over time, as well as what environmental stimuli induce that change.

Why did you decide to intern in the PR industry?
My first internship was with a start-up company, so I was required to wear many hats and work in diverse areas of the business. While I enjoyed dipping my toe into everything, the PR work really resonated with me and I discovered a passion for it.

What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I hope to be starting my career at a PR agency in the city!

Any fun facts about yourself that you’d like to share?

  • I was a ballet dancer before coming to college
  • I am an avid baker
  • I have a black belt in karate (from when I was 13)
  • And I’m a pop star…in the shower

Jake Walker
Brigham Young University, Class of 2016

What do you study?
I study communications with an emphasis in public relations. I am also minoring in business management.

What is the best class you’ve ever taken, and why did you love it?
This should probably be PR-related, but I am going to have to go with my astronomy class. BYU has a state-of-the-art planetarium where class was held. That meant reclining chairs and star shows.

Why did you decide to intern in the PR industry?
When I decided that I wanted to major in PR, I started investing all my working time into PR-related positions. I fully intend on working in the PR / Marketing field when I graduate and I wanted to get as much experience under my belt as I possibly could before I graduate in December.

What are your plans after graduation?
My plans are currently undecided. My number one plan: don’t get deported (I’m originally from the UK). Apart from that, I would love to work in a sports-related communications role, either for a professional sports team or sports apparel company.

Any fun facts about yourself that you’d like to share?

  • I went skydiving when I was 16
  • I speak fluent Estonian
  • I’ve had lunch with Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg
